Source of Health, an Arizona area natural healthcare center, has recently released a Facebook video entitled “Regenerative Medicine FAQs.” In the video, medical director Dr. Steven Sorr discussed regenerative medicine with a focus on stem cell therapy and other therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and prolotherapy.
Dr. Sorr is a licensed naturopathic medical doctor with years of advanced training in Functional Medicine, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement, and Regenerative Medicine. He has been practicing regenerative medicine in particular for over seven years. His goal is to revolutionize the mindset of the standard of care and make a significant impact on the modern healthcare system.
At the start of the video, Dr. Sorr emphasized his commitment to honesty and transparency in discussing the topic. He stated that the most important thing to understand is that an effective treatment plan depends on the individual patient. His years of experience have made him a believer in a personalized, holistic approach to healthcare.
Dr. Sorr immediately jumped into discussing the most high profile aspect of regenerative medicine: stem cell therapy. “Stem cells are a unique type of cell in our bodies,” he said. Stem cells have the unique ability to do two things: clone or differentiate. These cells can regulate and promote tissue growth, repair, and proliferation every time there is an injury. Dr. Sorr detailed the various capabilities of stem cells and explained how regenerative medicine utilizes stem cell therapy.
Along with providing a stem cell definition, he addressed common misconceptions people believe about stem cells. He also noted that there are some conditions which stem cells cannot effectively treat, such as autoimmune disorders. On the subject of autoimmune disorders, Dr. Sorr contrasted corticosteroidal treatments, which only seek to mask symptoms, with regenerative medicine, which seeks to resolve the source of the issue. “I am not a pain management doctor,” he said. “I’m a pain resolution doctor…”
The goal of regenerative medicine, according to Dr. Sorr, is to treat pain by “turning off” the underlying ailment that generates the pain. He said, “One of the things that we need to do is first identify and understand what your cause of problem is, what is the cause of disease. Instead of treating what, we have to treat why.” A common question is how long does regenerative therapy last? “This is not a drug…drugs wear off,” said Dr. Sorr. “When you are growing new tissue and it’s healing and it’s yours, it’s yours.”
Dr. Sorr ended the video by stressing the importance of educating people about regenerative medicine. He also offered a free consultation to those interested in learning if regenerative medicine can provide relief for their conditions.
